AGAFAY DESERT DARK SKY SAFARI
4x4 Adventure, Dinner & Stars in the Marrakech Desert
Travelling by 4x4 we head south towards the High Atlas Mountains to Nkhila in the Agafay Desert, a desolate region also known as the ‘Marrakech Desert’. This is the closest desert to Marrakech (the dunes of the Sahara are a 10-hour drive away!). Only 45 minutes from the ‘Red City’ the Agafay Desert is a completely different world from the hustle, bustle and bright lights of Marrakech. We head to the eastern reaches of Agafay where you will experience a barren landscape of rolling stone desert, roaming livestock and friendly locals originating from the vast Saharan dunes of the deep south of Morocco.
The Agafay Desert in an adventure playground for those keen to experience the great outdoors at its absolute best with a camel ride and desert walk popular optional activities. But it is the vast star-filled African night sky that is perhaps the biggest attraction. Unobscured by artificial lights the night sky can be mesmerizing on a clear cloudless night (most nights are clear in the Marrakech region). On our unique itinerary we include a demonstration of how to make a tasty Berber tagine, one of the dishes included in our Moroccan feast. After dinner there’s time to enjoy the dark skies before returning to Marrakech.
